Gratification
In my painting Gratification, I have chosen to share an intimate, authentic moment of self-pleasure. Painted from the subject's perspective in the bathtub, the piece explores a familiar and private ritual for many women—using the shower head as a source of self-discovery and enjoyment. The artwork doesn't shy away from this scene but embraces it as a genuine part of the human experience. There is no hint of shame—only the pure, unadulterated reality of self-love and self-acceptance. This intimate moment is openly shared with the audience, encouraging an acknowledgment of similar moments in their lives. Rendered in subtle, bubble-gum colors—pinks, yellows, purples, and blues—the painting imbues this personal encounter with lightness and joy. Each bold, relaxed brush stroke, frequent and inconsistent in intensity, echoes the waves of pleasure she experiences at the moment. The modern, unapologetic woman is depicted authentically, including a subtle landing strip on her pubic bone. It suggests she might have been enjoying a quiet moment of relaxation after her usual routine, turning a mundane act into an occasion of indulgence and self-appreciation. Gratification is not just a painting—it's an affirmation of pleasure, authenticity, and empowerment.
